Types of UPVC Door Handles
It is essential to select the appropriate replacement upvc handle for your home if your handles made of upvc require replacement. Locksmiths can provide and install high-security uPVC handles with added security features.
The most important measurements are measurement A (known as PZ) and the length of the backplate (measurement F). Take these measurements to make sure the new uPVC handle will fit.
Lever/Lever
A lever is a rigid rod that pivots around an object. When you apply force to the end of the bar, the fulcrum will rotate in the direction that the force is applied. This rotation multiplies the force applied which allows you to lift or move something that would require more force if you were to apply it directly to the load.
The distance between the fulcrum and the place where you apply the force determines how far the lever is able to move. This is known as the mechanical advantage. The more the lever is extended the greater the mechanical advantage. You can calculate the mechanical advantage by dividing distance from the fulcrum point to the place where you apply force by the distance between the fulcrum point and end of the lever.

Levers also have various effects based on the way in which forces are applied. A class 2 lever, for example is prone to turning in the opposite direction once the effort force is applied. If you press on the handle of a door, the forces will produce rotational effects similar to this.
However, levers don't create energy. They just multiply the force you apply by changing a small amount of effort applied over a long distance into a larger amount of force that is applied over a smaller distance. Levers are used to lift heavy objects and transport huge quantities of cargo. This is also the basis behind the levers that are found in many everyday tools like crowbars and fishing rods, hammer claws and even your own legs when you stand on the hand brake of your vehicle.
Lever/Pad
Lever pad handles, also known as upvc door handles feature levers on both sides to operate the multipoint locks. Lever pad handles are available in various finishes and variations and can be used on a wide range of materials that include UPVC doors, Aluminium doors & Timber Doors. They are sold in pairs for the inner and outer door, with screws and spindles included. They are available in both unhanded and handed versions to suit different users.
These can be used to replace existing upvc door. They are usually operated by lifting the levers to throw out all of the multipoint locks, and turning the key to close / unlock. They provide a bit more security than traditional lever door handles, as the locking can only be performed by the inside using a key.
They are not as safe as a cylinder lock, but they are cost-effective ways to add extra security to your home. The only downside is that they don't offer the same level of security as a cylinder bolt, and consequently don't block access to outside in the event that the door has been left open.
The majority of lever pad door handles made of upvc that we stock are made by the industry's leading manufacturers and therefore are constructed using high quality components. They are also typically supplied with a manufacturer's guarantee.
Typically, they are designed to be compatible with a 92mm lock or the replacement version known as a Paddock lock. They will have a 92mm centre cylinder on the inside and 62mm on the outside. They will also be equipped with two spindle followers. Some are supplied inserted in the back plate while others can be removed to enable different fixing centres.
Lever/Snib
Lever latches are by far the most simple kind of door handles. The lever is pushed downwards to open a latch inside the door. It can be locked with a key. Certain lever privacy handles work based on this same principle but with the addition of an snib (like a doorknob).
A snib-button can be very beneficial, especially for homes where it's important to protect privacy or ensure security. You can use the snib handle to block your guests from entering the home until they are prepared. This type handle can also be used on doors inside, such as those in bedrooms where you want to limit access from outside.
Snib buttons can cause problems in certain situations, particularly when you have old locks and warped doors. If the snib button is accidentally pressed, or by a person who isn't familiar with it, the door may be slammed and you locked out. In most cases, you can be able to get in by knocking the door's frame or letterbox, but this isn't a good idea.
If your uPVC has a snib, we recommend replacing it with an electronic lock from the E-LOK 7 Series. These locks can be retrofitted on double turn pull handle kits and are available with cover plates that hide the holes that are already present, allowing to make it a seamless installation. The E-LOK app can be used to open doors with RFID cards or mechanical key. Passcodes are also offered to ensure security and convenience. The system has been tested for 200,000 cycles in order to ensure long-lasting durability. The handles are made of solid metal and are in compliance with BS EN 1670 Grade 5 for corrosion resistance.
Lever/Moveable Pad
This popular handle design is commonly used on front doors. It has the advantage of preventing the door being opened without an outside key if the lock has not been deadlocked. This is achieved by the 'pad'-shaped external handle which locks in the gap between the handles and lock case to prevent the latch from being withdrawn or the door being opened.
This handle is designed to work with uPVC multipoint locks that employ a split spindle mechanism. This kind of operation requires the internal lever handle and the external pad handle to be installed within the same lock case. It is a simple change from the current uPVC handles, but it might also involve changing the lock case or even a new set of handles to accommodate this additional functionality.
